Austenizing Temp for SA-387 Gr.11 CL. 2

What temperature and hold time would be required to fully austenize 387-11-2 material

RE: Austenizing Temp for SA-387 Gr.11 CL. 2

The lower critical transformation temperature for this material is approximately 1430 deg F. Therefore, you would need to remain well above this minimum temperature (typically a minimum of 1650 deg F) to achieve a completely austenitic structure. The time at temperature depends on the method of heating and thickness of the component - very rough estimate 1 hour per inch of material thickness for a good soak at temperature.
