Hi everyone,
I'm trying to do boolean operations (subtract and/or intersect) using parts in the 'assembly mode' but the combine feature dosen't work. I notice that the combine feature specifies "two or more SOLID bodies". Are the parts I import into assembly mode not solid? Is there a way to make them solid? I know how to do boolean in 'parts mode' but I'd like to take advantage of the mating conditions and ease of moevment of parts available in the 'assembly mode'. Any suggestions on how to do this? I can do this in pro/d by importing a part and then making one or more of the parts "solid", before proceeding with the boolean operations.

I looked into your suggestions but it appears that in the assembly mode parts can only be joined , not subrtacted or intersected. Any other suggestions for boolean operations in assembly mode? I've tried saving the part as an STL. file hoping that this would make it a solid but I can't open such a file.

One peculiarity about join I recently experienced in SW 2003:
If I selected multiple bodies from multiple components in a single join operation, the bodies remained separate. If each join feature had one single part, the resulting bodies of subsequent joins were automatically merged with the body of the first join.
