thin layer on substrate

thin layer on substrate

thin layer on substrate

(OP)
Hello!

I have to model a thin layer (metal film) on substrate (Polyimid). And simulate a tensile test. The substrate and the film have different thickness. The substrate has a 125 micron thickness.
The second layer is a 80 nanometer thick metal film.
The structure is 6mm wide, and 20mm long.
There is a big difference in the dimesions. ANSYS have only 32000 Elements, and i can not mesh all with 3d-solid elements.
Please give me a tipp, which elements i could use...and how i could start the model building.

RE: thin layer on substrate

Try to use symmentry to simplfly the model. Ansys is more stable for meshing thin layers also. You can also try to mesh finer in the thin layer and do a course mesh for the larger substrate you have.
