Heat balance in rotary dryer

(OP)
I'm a rookie in equipment design and am trying to write an excel spreadsheet to help me properly size rotary dryers and burners for different applications. Because equipment design is not my primary job i don't have the time to read 15 different books on the subject. Does anyone know of a GREAT reference on the subject ??? Thanks :)

RE: Heat balance in rotary dryer

to get you started. it depends on the application but typically a dryer is sized based on the specific unit evaporation rate (kg of H2O evap / m3 /h). all you'd have to do is find out what the industry standard was for your proposed application.

the energy balance is quiet simple as you just have to burn enough (fuel/gas/coal) to evaporate the water and heat the product streams (off-gas and dried product).
