BOM help

BOM help

BOM help

(OP)
Can anyone help me with the following BOM question? This might get confusing, so I hope this comes across the right way. So here we go…………

I have a SWpart :     456-1 BEARING
I have a SWpart :     123-2 MACHINE HOUSING
I make an SW assembly:123-1 MACHINE HOUSING ASSEMBLY
(from 123,456)

I create a SW drawing from the SW assembly and insert a BOM using an Excel base BOM and my part list looks like this:

QTY    ITEM    PART NO    DESCRIPTION        MATERIAL    CAGE
1    1    123-2        MACHINE HOUSING    -        -
1    2    456-1        BEARING            -        -

END……………..

Ok, now I modified that BEARING with an extrude cut (example) in the SW assembly. Now the SW assembly becomes 123-1 MACHINE HOUSING ASSY. I would like an option to show this in my BOM to look like this:

QTY    ITEM    PART NO    DESCRIPTION        MATERIAL    CAGE
A    -    123-1        MACHINE HOUSING ASSY
1    1    123-2        MACHINE HOUSING    -        -
1    2    456-1        BEARING            -        -

Is there a way to accomplish this? Can I copy specific custom properties in to an Excel template? I consider myself pretty savvy with custom properties and cannot figure this out.  We do this all the time and do not want to manual modify the Excel template in each drawing. Basically, I want the SWassembly and the SWparts to show up in the BOM when I create it all the time. That would be a big help.

Thanks,

macduff

RE: BOM help

Have you played with "BOM types" in the "table properties"?
Would "indented assemblies" work?

Your example is a little confusing... but the indented assemblies should do the trick.

RE: BOM help

One workaround is to double click on the BOM and insert a row. Enter your text manually.

RE: BOM help

The only way (I know of) to have the BOM automatically show the MACHINE HOUSING ASSY is to insert it into the drawing as the child of another assy, & use the "Show indented" option to list its parts.
