part model-1 imp. surface&6 surface fills. How do I make it a part?
(OP)
I'm converting a part file from Pro-e, and having alot of problems turning it into a solid. I've had them send me iges-native pro-e, and step. In sw2004 the iges worked the cleanest. With many variations of saveing parasolid and opening, It's been narrowed down to 1 imported surface, and 6 surface fills. Now I save it in parasolid, and open the parasolid, it makes an assembly model with 6 parts. prior to saving the parasolid I tryed knitting the fills, with errors. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to open the parasolid as a part, and not turn it into an assembly of 2 surfaceonly parts?

Knit the surfaces together using [i]"Insert --> Surface --> Knit"[i]. Create a solid using thicken. If your surface knit into a closed volume, you can select the option to make a solid from the surface.
A good way to check if your surface is a closed volume is to look at it in wireframe. Free edges will be a different color, as specified in your system options.
The long road...
Export each of the surfaces individually to parasolid. You can do this by having the body selected when you "Save as". You will be prompted as to whether you wish to save the entire part or selected bodies.
Start a new part, and import each of the bodies using "Insert --> Feature --> Imported". If the only features present are imported bodies, you can use the diagnosis tool to close gaps and create a solid.

Not to confuse this with Tools > Check.
Hope this helps.
