How to balance a flywheel or pressure plate??

How to balance a flywheel or pressure plate??

How to balance a flywheel or pressure plate??

(OP)
Ok guys....  heres the problem.  The stock pressure plate for my car (aprox $45) has the straps held on with rivets.  These straps and rivets are known to break at high RPM.

There are a few companies that sell modified PP's with double stacked straps and bolts instead of rivets but they want almost $300 for them.

What machine is used for balancing a flywheel or PP??  If I can get one for a resonable price, I will do my own, and (hopefully) offer the service to others for a better price.

Thanks- Josh

RE: How to balance a flywheel or pressure plate??

If you have a flywheel known to be properly balanced, you can use it to match balance another flywheel for identical application.  You need a precisely machined mounting mandrel that places the known good and new flywheels exactly 180 degrees out of phase and a set of balancing rollers to do this.  Probably won't be as accurate as higher priced equipment but I'll bet it's close enough if carefully executed.

If the added straps and bolts were weight matched and mounted symetrically, would it effect the existing balance? The straps are typically stamped steel and should be close, bolts, washers, and nuts also.

I would think the replacing of the rivets with bolts/nuts would induce offset weights laterally which in turn would throw it out of wack...'specially at high RPM that I will be seeing (approaching 8k).  This would only be worse if I doubled up on the straps.

What kind of car is this?   You should be able to find a performance pressure plate that won't break at high RPMS for well under $300.  I got a modified pressure plate, throw out bearing and kevlar 4 puck clutch disc for $325 from spec
