How do I copy my SolidWorks Profile?
How do I copy my SolidWorks Profile?
(OP)
Our company finally setup our server as a domain server instead of a workgroup "server". Since I created a new profile for logging into my Windows XP Pro PC, all of the settings and preferences in SolidWorks are back at the default. Is there any way to copy my previous customized preferences to the new user?
Thanks,
Tim

RE: How do I copy my SolidWorks Profile?
In the "..\SolidWorks\setup\i386" folder is a program called "copyoptwiz.exe". It creates a SW .reg file that you can make available to multiple users (including other instances of myself, I presume). However, I haven't been able to get this to save the layout and customizations of my toolbars like I had hoped. Does anybody know how to use this so I can save the settings I have for my old profile, or do I have to pretty much start from scratch?
Thanks,
Tim

Backing up the User Interface Per APPENG's FAQ. I have tried this in the past, and it did work for me once. But after that it didn't. If it fails to work for you, you will have to go into the registry and manually remove the User Interface key folder.
I hope you have better luck than I have had with it in the past.

RE: How do I copy my SolidWorks Profile?
Start->Programs->SolidWorks 2004->SolidWorks Tools->Copy Option Wizard.
This seems like a very powerful tool (i.e., use with caution) since it can be used to quickly replicate a SolidWorks environment to any or all users or computers on a domain.
Thanks,
Tim
