Hello,
I am looking for a method (or reference with a method) to estimate the evaporation rate (or more precisely the energy loss due to evaporation) from a basically still (it has low but known average surface velocity) tank with 70C water. The tank is located in an industrial plant. The convection coefficeint at the waters surface is known. Plant air temp is known as is the relative humidity of the air.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Have used the following empirical formula to predict evaporative loss from thickeners.

Water Evaporated (kg/h) = ((3.83465×D^2)×(1+0.33×WV)x 2.39×2.865E¯10×((VTEF)^4.27));
where:
D-thickener diameter (m)
WV - wind velocity (miles/h)
VTEF - input stream temperature (oF)

Not sure about applicability to your duty.

Too bad your liquid is not a volatile organic compound - the EPA has a free program called Tanks that estiamtes evaporation loss from storage tanks.
