Anyone has experience with AS-Interface?

Anyone has experience with AS-Interface?

(OP)
Good day to all,

I am just starting to look into the AS-Interface protocol as a possibility for one of our mine expansion and was looking to get some valuable input by folks who have experience with this protocol...I still do not know much about it.

So anyone have installed devices on such a network with proven success? How stable is the network when in operation? Any problems with the interface units sold by any manufacturer? Does it really save money?

To me it appears to be limiting (being mainly for digital data transmission) so if I have a lot of instruments to install like pressure, temp and flow transmitters, on top of automated valves, maybe I need to look into FieldBus.

I know it is a long shot but I would appreciate your input. As an avid reader, I have enjoyed your postings since I joined in July 2003

Cheers!

RE: Anyone has experience with AS-Interface?

MineAutomat,

I would go Fieldbus. I have a DeltaV system with both AS-i for the ROV's and Fieldbus for transmitters. This was installed in the fall of 2001, at that time AS-i was the only thing available for ROV's but now Stonel has a good fieldbus switch. http://www.stonel.com/pdfs/onyxlit04.pdf
