Macro & Micro Tests?

Macro & Micro Tests?

Macro & Micro Tests?

(OP)
Hello:

I frequently see the terms “macro” and/or “micro” on material certification reports. What do these terms mean?

Are these terms related to a UT inspection?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Fracball

RE: Macro & Micro Tests?

They refer to optical examination of the material
Macro usually refers to examinations at magnifications up to about X10
Micro refers to examinations at higher magnifications - typically around x400.

RE: Macro & Micro Tests?

Macro is a term used to define magnification of 10X or less. Micro is used for maginification >10X, (typically 100X or more.)
