A BOM question

A BOM question

A BOM question

(OP)
We have an assembly that consists of two parts part A and Subassembly B
There are two versions of subassembly B (to give the manufacture more flexibility)
We would like the BOM to have two instances of the same item to reflect the two versions i.e.
Item 1 part A
Item 2 Subassembly B1
Item 2 Subassembly B2
Anyone have any suggestions
We are using SW2004.21 and excel based BOMs

RE: A BOM question

I am not sure about how the excel based BOM's work in this case.  But with the new BOM structure, you can select a configuration for that particular assembly.  Under the BOM properties, it allows you to select the configuration.  Maybe put two BOM's on the drawing...one for each option.  Just be careful with the autoballooning since the numbering can be different from one configuration to another.

RE: A BOM question

How about inserting one instance of B1 & one instance of B2. Hide one or the other. It will still show up on BOM even though it is hidden.

RE: A BOM question

Not hide, but suppress, and create a new config.

RE: A BOM question

I guess hiding would work, if you insist on having both options in the same BOM.  You could also group B1 and B2 so they have the same item number too.  Could be confusing when ordering material though... might purchase both options if your not careful.

Another trick you might want to try is showing one option using dashed phantom lines while the standard option is solid.

RE: A BOM question

Don't worry about hiding, suppressing or phantom lining .... just have a view of both configurations on the sheet, each with its own BOM? That way the balloon referencing is independent for each view & there should be no confusion over which BOM & parts belong to which config.
