saving a assembly model as a dumb part
saving a assembly model as a dumb part
(OP)
How can I save a large assembly model as 1 part so that
all internal features are not avialable for any one to see or use for reverse engineering.
I have recieved assembled models that say they are imported
and and have utilized them in other assemblies and would like to do the same with my asssembly.

RE: saving a assembly model as a dumb part
Select:
Insert>Component>New Part...
(give the part a name, and select a Front plane)
The part should now be in edit mode within the assembly.
Select:
Insert>Features>Join...
(select the Assy components to join)
Exit Part Edit mode

What version of SolidWorks implemented that feature?
It is not a choice in the Save As dialog in 2001+
(at least not on my pc)
Thanks,

My company has to 'Approve' the new releases before we can use them...
Some areas use large assemblies, such as tracter/trailers w/ pumps on the back of them, that require a stabile platform to open with...
There seemed to be some bugs in 2003, so now they are evaluating 2004...
(It's not my choice
