(OP)
Just like to get another opinion on this exterior pylon sign were doing. Sign is 16' from ground to top of sign, 8' wide. We are in md, atleast 36" to frost line. The designer has this 24' pole aluminum, that will be set 7'deep x 36" wide. Is this a little overkill?  Is there any rule of thumb or guide lines that determine depth or size of hole based upon size sign and height out of the ground?  I know this sign is gonna be subject to alot of wind, but how high off the ground determines depth of hole?

Thanks
S.Mann

RE: post hole requirements

The depth and diameter of the hole should be designed based on a combination of load and soil/rock type.  The height and size of the sign along with the design wind conditions, determines the amount of load.  The soil/rock type are determinded by the site and the geotechnical engineer.

Seven feet deep and a 36-inch hole does not seem out of place for the sign that you describe.
