copying-assy,parts&drawings-thru sw explorer-drawngs dont get copied
(OP)
When I do a copy of an assembly thru sw explorer, with a new name, all of the associated parts get copied but not the assocative drawings. Have I messed up something?
I'm still using 2003

Check out http://www.javelin-tech.com/main/products/javware.htm
Failing that, as ctopher pointed out, if you copy the assembly drawing and use the "save children" feature, you will get the drawing & associated parts copied.

We don't number drawings and parts the same. Consequently, I am currently having this same problem. What I've found is if all the files you want to copy are in the same directory and you simply do a copy/paste from windows explorer then the new copied assembly will be completley independent of the original - drawing files included (the copied drawings will reference the copied parts), provided you do not have any other solidworks files open and you don't have any default file locations specified in Tools-Options-File Locations-Referenced Documents. Hope this helps.
RE: copying-assy,parts&drawings-thru sw explorer-drawngs dont get copied
When you copy an assembly, all parts and sub-ass'ys are it's children. The drawings of those parts and subs are separate parents to those files than the main assembly (think step-parents). That's why they do not get copied.
