We have to supply some control stations to a steelworks. The contractor has asked for Zone 2 Dust enclosures.
We would normally supply IP54 enclosures. Are these the same?

RE: Zone 2 dust enclosures

Hi Martechman,

'Zone 2' is a term normally used in relation to hazardous area apparatus, as do are the terms 'Zone 1' and 'Zone 0' which indicate more stringent requirements.

Check under ATEX or hazardous area equipment for manufacturers of enclosures designed for hazardous area installation, but if you are not experienced in hazardous area design, you should seriously consider subcontracting this job out. The consequences of getting a hazardous area design wrong in a heavy process plant environment rightly make this a specialist area of design.

Check the following manufacturers:

CEAG Crouse-Hinds
Bartec
Craig & Derricott

Hope this helps

Suggestion: Visit
http://www.searcheng.co.uk/selection/control/Articles/useful/hazardous.htm
for more info on Zones 0, 1, 2
Reference: The Standard EN 60079-10 provides guidance for classification of areas in which an explosive atmosphere may exist.

Zones classification covers external and internal characteristics of housing (sometimes referred to as explosion proof housing). IP54 covers the external characteristics of the enclosure only.

RE: Zone 2 dust enclosures

Check the following manufacturer for
ATEX enclosure ( For Zone 1 and Zone 2 ) www.europexltd.com.
