Process Signal Wiring Standard

Process Signal Wiring Standard

Process Signal Wiring Standard

(OP)
Does anyone know if there is a published standard that provides guidelines for routing process signal wires (4-20mA)? This would be as opposed to power wiring (e.g. route signal wire in separate conduit, separated by a distance...). Thanks.

RE: Process Signal Wiring Standard

Please refer to NFPA 79 or look for article 725 in NEC book.

RE: Process Signal Wiring Standard

Article 725 does not generally apply to 4-20 mA.  I am not aware of a good standard.  There are many variables.

What Voltage power, 120 VAC, 4160 VAC?

Constant Voltage power or 120 VAC control switching circuits?

Buried, pole lines or in tray?

Shielded or non-shielded 4-20 mA pairs with overall shielded cable, ...?

Cross perpendicular and separate power and mA by at least six inches.  Use fiber optics.

John
