ASME interpretation for Stamp request

ASME interpretation for Stamp request

ASME interpretation for Stamp request

(OP)
Dear Experts and help me;

Generally,we have been requested to design and test the fuel natural gas pressure conditioning facilities in accordance with ASME VIII div 1. Installed area is east asia.

Specifically,we have been requested to design and constructe the natural fuel gas knock drum and filter for separation of condensate and mechnical material (working pressure:60 bars, working temp 60 oC) but we have not been requested to design and construct natural fuel gas waterbath heater and strainer and condensate tank (W.P:60 bar,W.T:60 oC).

Now,we have already designed and fabricated on the shop holding ASME "U" stamp the natural fuel gas nock drum,filter and waterbath eater, strainer, condesate tank in accordance with ASME VIII Div. 1 without AI's ceterfication and involvement. And then, the client is requesting "U" stamp in accordance with ASME VIII div 1. And we are explaining to the client that "U" stamp is not requested from the client only requested design and fabrication in accordance with ASME VIII Div 1. But the client is interpretating that the design and construction and test in accordance with ASME VIII Div.1 meanns essentially the vessels with "U" stamped.
Eventually our prefabricated vessels for fuel gas system rejected by client and our further work is still stopped.

Therefore we questionnaire the following 4 question.
Please advise it urgently so that we can proceed next step.

QUESTION 1 : is it correct client's interpretation (the vessel in accordance with ASME VII Div. 1 means of vessel
with "U" stamp essentially)?

QUESTION 2 : We understand that the boiler in accordance with ASME I have been interpretated the boiler(vessel) with "S" and/or "A" essentially. How about the vessel in accordance with ASME VIII Div 1?

QUESTION 3 : What is our best way to minimize our big impact to apply "U" stamp on prefabricated fuel gas vessel?

QUESTION 4 : Is there any special procedure to apply ASME VIII Div. 1 "U" stamp on prefabricated pressure vessel for natural fuel gas vessel?

QUESTION 5 : Is it not helpful to obtain "U" stamp from AI if fabrication of vessel is carried out on shop holding "U" stamp ?

Best Regards,

RE: ASME interpretation for Stamp request

hwangbojin

I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge;
Here is from your Q?

QUESTION 1 : is it correct client's interpretation (the vessel in accordance with ASME VII Div. 1 means of vessel
with "U" stamp essentially)?
ANSWER:
Many engineers, Shops, Mfrs. wrongly interprete (and  advertise  thet their  products are built  to the ASME Code) some times even if they do not have the STAMP.
They are incorrectly using the Code .

Your client is  correct, because you can not build to the ASME Code is the item is not stamped.(you  can  ask  the ASME at www.ASME.org codes and standards)

QUESTION 2 : We understand that the boiler in accordance with ASME I have been interpretated the boiler(vessel) with "S" and/or "A" essentially. How about the vessel in accordance with ASME VIII Div 1?
ANSWER:
It is the same thing, you can mention Built to the ASME and Code section or symbol stamp.

QUESTION 3 : What is our best way to minimize our big impact to apply "U" stamp on prefabricated fuel gas vessel?

answer:If you have the U stamp, you follow the procedure;  AI involvement since start of fabrication.
There is not other way authorized or known.

QUESTION 4 : Is there any special procedure to apply ASME VIII Div. 1 "U" stamp on prefabricated pressure vessel for natural fuel gas vessel?

ANSWER:
No: You have to concur with your Authorized inspector.
(I know you are asking this because of your already fab. part/vessel)and unless your AI is willing to help you on this...and you are out of luck if he or she does not.

QUESTION 5 : Is it not helpful to obtain "U" stamp from AI if fabrication of vessel is carried out on shop holding "U" stamp ?

Your question is not clear.
If a  U  stamp shop holder fab the vessel to Code, it will add  little money to  the  vessel  is stamped.
You do not get the stamp from AI, you  apply  the stamp in front of the AI when he authorize so.

Here is my question: DO YOU HAVE A STAMP?  BECAUSE IT  SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE THE QCMGR  and you are not sure  of it.
...sorry I    ask.

RE: ASME interpretation for Stamp request

Your customer is correct. you   can not    build to  the ASME   if you   are  not  stamping the  vessel.
Some shops wrongly advertise and build w/o stamping.
Some shops does not even have a stamp.
Those products are NON-CODE items
You can only  apply the stamp with the AI concurrence, period.
If the AI will not doit for you at this time, you are out of luck and the vessel goes to the trash. No mercy.

I answered all in detail, and I posted it... it may got lost.

Dear generalblr;

Thank you very much for your help.
And the other expert informed that these components having the mixing and separating function should be treated as an
piping component, not as an vessel. Therefore stamp for piping components is not necessary. Also, the condensate tank and water bath heater shall be treated as just atmospheric tank due to operating pressure lower than 15 pia.Therefore stamp for condensate tank operating lower than 15 psi is not necessary.

RE: ASME interpretation for Stamp request

Not necessary, okay. If it is the customer's wishes to be stamped, you may well find out or you are still in the trouble.

ER
