Zissner's _On Writing Well_ is about nonfiction writing in all its forms. I can't write or edit my own writing without thinking of what it says.

Many people, including Zinsser, cite Strunk and White's _The Elements of Style_ as a must read. To be honest, I haven't read it yet. Some day...

rjcjr9,
You have stirred my interest.  I intend to make time to chase that link and possibly even buy Zinsser and/or the cite's.  A star for you.

Why is the underscore key used to denote a title?

Underlining the title of a book (and enclosing the title of an article in quotes) is the convention I was taught in composition class. On Usenet, which is plain text, I picked up the habit of using leasding and trailing underscores as a substitute. I think Eng-Tips allows HTML tags, but I find myself using the underscores.

I'll second the recommendation of Zinsser's book. It's very readable and very good.
