Removal of armour

(OP)

We have a situation where it is not feasable to use bus (space issue).

Usually, in this application we would use 4 runs of 5kv unshielded 500mcm cable per phase.  Our supplier has told use that this cable is no longer available, unless special order, i.e. no orders under 1000ft, and a hefty price to match!

Is there any problems with using 5kv teck and stripping the armour?  There is no chance of mechanical damage to the cable (it is in a enclosure from xfmr sec to main breaker).

My only concern is that I will have to get the installation passed by CSA with cable that has no markings on it what so ever.  Are there any other concerns?

Regards,
Tulum

anixter is our supplier, but I will try the other 2.

Thanks

RE: Removal of armour

Suggestion: Any modification of the cable will cause to lose its UL or other cable industry standard label.
This may pose a problem when it comes to approvals.

Suggestion: Visit

and type Cables: Unshielded under Product or Service, which will return 73 companies to approach to with the specs
