Your question seems to have generated only humorous replies - perhaps because no one can think of a single synonymous word. Neither can I, but if you are looking for an alternative phrase to provide "elegant variation" in a sentence you are constructing, you might try "harbinger of ....." , as in "harbinger of doom", "harbinger of disaster", "harbinger of fate" etc. Not really synonymous but it might work.
