Double puntendre

Double puntendre

Double puntendre

(OP)
A colleague noted that I may have invented a new literary form today.  The "double puntendra"  a combination of the pun and the double-entendre.

I was writing regarding a list of self-tests proposed for a microprocessor controlled power-electronics device.  I made the comment that the number of test items appeared "shockingly short".

I must confess that I did not do this at a conscious level.

What do you think?  I am destined to be remembered along with the likes of Shakespeare, Shaw, Hemingway and Dickens?

RE: Double puntendre

Probably.
Better take out more insurance.

Buy a dictionary, keep it nearby and USE it. Webster's New World Dictionary of American English is recommended, and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

RE: Double puntendre

Yeah, Bernie Shakespeare, Alphie Shaw, Donna Hemingway, and Peter Dickens.

RE: Double puntendre

Bearing in mind the comments on another thread about some words being readable where the first and last letters are correct and the rest are jumbled up, I discovered with your coined word (19,999 to go to match Shakespeare, according to Pat), that the mind tries to make a sensible known word out of the new unfamiliar word and does so based on the first and last letters.

I won't tell you what word my mind was trying to make of this, but it made me do a double take!

RE: Double puntendre

zdas04,
I have an oil painting and a violin. One is a Monet and the other is a Stradivarius.

Unfortunately Stradivarius was a terrible painter!

Good Luck

But MintJulep
All the BEST puns are double-entendres.
The best puns are also unconcious.

My usual thought is "Did I (really) say that?"

[Now I'm self-concious about proper formation of plurals.]
