Buried pipeline

Buried pipeline

Buried pipeline

(OP)
Dear All,

I would really appreciate if someone could explain to me the above situation.

If I had a flexible pipe buried to a depth of 1.5m in soil beneath 5m of water, how would I calculate the total stress pore water pressure and effective stress at the top of the pipe, assuming the soil is fully saturated?

Best wishes,

Howard

RE: Buried pipeline

The pore water pressure should be equal to the depth of the water.  The effective stress should be equal to the buoyant weight of the soil times the soil depth.  Adding the two together will give you the total stress.  That is, assuming the pore water pressure has reached equilibrium...

Why do you ask?
