Are there any codes or standards related to the inspection or design of metal bellows expansion joints for ductwork or any case histories of in service failures and their causes.

Thanks

I did npt obtain a copy but I was informed that no acceptanc criteria exists for welding. I am performing some inspection work of fabricated rectangular expansion joints however no acceptance criteria has been supplied yet. Are there any ductwork specifications/standards that would be useful?

RE: Rectangular Expansion Joint Welding Acceptance

pipewelder1999,
There was a standard for duct work.  I don't remember the number but we had a large waste heat recovery system that was built using the standard.  The system had a lot of square or flued expansion joints.
If I remember correctly it was an like a subset of D-1.1.
Try 1.8 or 8.1

pipewelder1999,

One number off.
The code is AWS D9.1M/9.1-2000.

RE: Rectangular Expansion Joint Welding Acceptance

For acceptance criteria you could use ASME VIII -1
appendix 26-5 , which deals with expansion bellow welds.
