API-620 legs and angle

API-620 legs and angle

API-620 legs and angle

(OP)
API-620 code tank: We have a botton cone with 1/4" reinforcing angle and legs. The legs and angle interfere with each other. Will API-620 code allow the angle to be cut and welded to the legs or the legs to be notched out? I assume the answer is no but thought someone might know of a way around this problem. (note:A knuckle radius can not be used because our verticle height of the cone is limited.)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

RE: API-620 legs and angle

ARE THE REINFORCING ANGLES SIMILAR TO ELEMENTS OF A CONE THAT IS DO THEY RUN LENGTHWISE ALONG THE SURFACE OF THE CONE?  ARE THE LEGS ALSO ANGLES AND OF THE SAME SIZE AS THE REINFORCEMENTS?  DO LEGS AND REINFORCEMENT MEET END TO END?

RE: API-620 legs and angle

(OP)
The legs are pipe and run 12+ " up the side of the vertical tank. The angle runs horizontally around the shell to bottom cone juncture.

RE: API-620 legs and angle

I would make the legs continuous and splice the stiffening ring to suit.  The splice detail should have adequate strtength and continuity to carry the calculated loads.
