ph adjustment

(OP)
Distillation still bottoms, 85% moisture, discharge at a ph of 4.6-4.8. Can they be adjusted to a level that will allow them to be processed by a mild steel centrifuge and mild steel dryer.

RE: ph adjustment

You can adjust the pH by adding some alkali but it may not suffice to prevent corrosion.A measurement of the redox behaviour of your solution and your metal would help to make an estimation of the rate of corrosion.

RE: ph adjustment

Adjusting pH will just introdue unecessary reactions which definitely have side effects (heat of reaction, incomplete reactions, precipitates coating etc), why don't you just use a corrossion resistant centrifuge e.g. stainless steel.
