large threads
large threads
(OP)
i need to draw a part which is essentially 6 threads running along the axis of a large cylinder. I have the equations for the threads and the wrap angle(how far it goes round the cyliinder) could someone please help me. Simple help would be great.

RE: large threads
You should only have to model 1 thread, then revolve that feature around your cylinder for the other 5.

RE: large threads
Either way it sounds like you need to use a Sweep. There is a fair amount of good information in the Help files under "Sweep" and also in the On-line Tutorial in 3D Sketching & Revolves & Sweeps.
Basically you need to create the path of the sweep with a helix and a profile of the thread on a plane perpendicular to to the end of the helix. There is a section in the help files which relate specifically to the end conditions of the swept profile.
If the "thread" is to be a part in an assembly, model it seperately, add it to the assy, then create a Circular Pattern
