What is going on?(charging batteries)

What is going on?(charging batteries)

What is going on?(charging batteries)

(OP)

Hi all,
i have 14 cells of Li-iron batteries,
each cell should have 2.75 to 4.25 VDC
which gives a total of (4.25*14 = 95.5V)

also i have a charger which can supply at 24V or 12V only.
and the current rating is up to 20 A

in order to charge the batteries, i have to create voltage difference .
So the voltage of the batteries should be lower than of the charger.

in the charging specification of the batteries, i have found that their general charging is at 33A.

After connecting the 6 cells in series, and then to the charger, i have noticed that the current is about 5amps, and keeps on droping ( because the voltage of the batteries is increasing)

but,i didnt understand  , why its charging at 5amps ???shouldnt it be charging at a higher value?

RE: What is going on?(charging batteries)

What is the output voltage when charging at 5A? The range of voltage for 6 batteries in series could be anywhere from 16.5V to 25.5V. As the battery(and therefore the system) voltage increases, the charging current will decrease. Is the 20A rated charger current at 12V or 24V? Usually, the maximum output current of a charger is limited by internal circuitry.

RE: What is going on?(charging batteries)

Suggestion: The 6-cell battery may already be charged enough to require 5A only when you start charging it.
