RE: ipart naming

Custom iParts have to be named manually upon insertion.  Click on the browse button to place and name the factory.

The first icon is a custom iPart child in a assembly.

The second is a normal ipart child in an assembly

The last icon is an iPart factory (parent).

See my site for tutorials on iParts.

RE: ipart naming

(OP)
Thank you Sean. Is there a way to automate naming? For instance, if I have an ipart for an 8020 extrusion, and I want the file to be named according to my custom length like: 1010 - <length>. Is there a way to do that? Thank you again.

RE: ipart naming

No, that is one of the gotchas for custom iParts.  You can automatically generate file names for regular iParts but not custom ones.

That's evil ;). Think they're every going to put that in another inventor iteration? Or can you use a vb script to do that?

RE: ipart naming

I'm pounding on them to do that.  Don't think VB can do it wither as that part of the API is not exposed.
