Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

(OP)
Customer has european design machines and wants to only connect the three phase conductors from a distribution 277 / 480 wye with a grounded neutral transformer and not connect a neutral conductor.  Does anyone have experience with this ?

RE: Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

Comment: Three-phase tree-wire power supply 480V can be used. It can be used for delta or wye connected machines. However, the frequency should be matched properly, e.g. 60Hz, if applicable.

RE: Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

Verify that there are no 277V loads in the equipment. {Don’t leave out equipment grounding.}

RE: Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

Actually that's very common and not at all unique to european equipment. You should not have any problem, keeping in mind the cautions of the previous posts.

RE: Delta connection from Grounged Wye ?

He's asking for 480V, 3PH, 3W? So give it to him.
Like Busbar said check that he has no 277V loads in the equipment.
And bond the equipment properly to your supply gnd.

Most european equipment I have seen has a isolation transformer for power and control and is generally 3PHase. Older equipment used 3PH for easier DC rectifcation I think. Really basic rectifiers in most of these pieces of equipment. You can fix them with components from Radio Shack.
A host of other control ccts come off these transformers as well. But you will find this out when you examine the schematic for the machine.
Don't be confused by the neutral in your 3PH system. If you are using a disribution t/f to feed this machine and you did the install than you know that you are required to bond the nuetral of your t/f to gnd if it has a Wye connected secondary. This is all you have to do.
Would you be wondering where to put the neutral wire if your t/f had a Delta connected secondary?
