part names in assembly design trees not updating

(OP)
Names of parts in assembly design trees do not update when I change the filenames of those parts.  Anyone know how to make it update, either manually or automatically?  I am still running v2003.. is this problem fixed in v2004?

RE: part names in assembly design trees not updating

More data please.  Exactly how are you "changing the filenames"?  I can think of a number of possibilities immediately, all of which should work perfectly.

1.  You open the part file and do a Save AS.
2.  You do a Replace.
3.  You edit component properties (slightly different issue, but could result in different names in the tree).

If you are changing file names in Windows outside the assembly and expecting SW to magically realize you have done this - ain't going to happen.

RE: part names in assembly design trees not updating

cmm, it is a bug in SW2003 SP5.0. I think it was fixed in SP5.1. See Thread559-78682.
