ultra small dc regulator
(OP)
developing a small dc regulator im trying to get 110 ac and then get 5vdc, @ 1A what do you think about rectify directly from 110vac, then using a SCR and a microcontroller to perform phase control, then a LC filter and at last a lm 5vdc regulator, i think it seems easy to develop and a small choice.

Switching power supplies are designed every day for your application. I was involved with a "wall wart" design. 110VAC to 5vdc @ 1.2 amp - it was a switcher with galvanic and optical isolation. Search the web for switching power supply theory...

power supply is an option but frequently involves a transformer.
its designed to charge a batt and to feed a mcu maximum 700mA.
any other comment will be of great help.

For lower current you can use series capacitor, for 110V 60Hz you need 2.4 microF for each 100 mA.
