Analysis of semicircular annular plates

Analysis of semicircular annular plates

Analysis of semicircular annular plates

(OP)
Does anyone know where I can find out how to analyze stresses on a semicular (180 deg.)annular plate loaded on the inside radius and fixed or supported on the outside radius?  I have used Roarks for 360 deg. annular plates but there are no cases with half cirlces.

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried transforming the analysis
used in Table 24 Case 31 to suit your
   loading/support? (Roark's 6TH Edition p.439)

Also you might want to consider a rectangualr plate fixed on three sides and loaded on the 4th.

RE: Analysis of semicircular annular plates

No, the Roark reference to Table 24, Case 31 is not the appropriate model, buddy needs inside radial loading, fixed outer edge AND NOT face load.

You can deduce your tri-axial stresses from Thick Walled Pressure Vessel Theory and note the absence of longitudinal stress by setting that variable to zero.  Von Mises is probably the best for your application.  Stresses are parabolic in nature from you ID and tend to zero at the outer edge.

Check out the complete description of the analysis in any subject related to Advance Mechanics of Materials.  It's on the web, somewhere.

Look at modifying a bushing interference analysis to suit your needs.
