What Steel?

What Steel?

What Steel?

(OP)
HI there, I have an old production drawing and on it the material specifcation calls for TL-4223.  This is a German drawing from 1987. does anybody have any idea as to what grade steel this would be today?
many thanks,
Liam

RE: What Steel?

I think this may be a proprietary specification from Volkswagen.  I don't know about this one in particular, but they do use TL ### designations.

Regards,

Cory

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

RE: What Steel?

Just wanted to confirm Cory's information that this is likely a VW specification.  Sorry I can't provide any details on composition, etc.  Depending on the type of component, I would recommend contacting German steel companies to see if they can offer some assistance.  Eng-tips member richardbuss may be the best person on this forum to help...
