Sheet piling pricing

Sheet piling pricing

Sheet piling pricing

(OP)
I realize there are many possible factors that can affect the costs, but I need to know, roughly, how much a sheet pile retaining wall might cost. I am looking at roughly 500lf along a creek bank. The hight may vary from 5' above grade to 3' above grade. I do not anticipate have to anchor the wall to deadmen or anything of that nature.

Anybody have any information. I am really just trying to put together a ROUGH estimate. Thanks.

I would suggest that you place a call or send an email to some of the geotechnical specialty contractors that do this on a daily basis.  In the U.S., two of the largest contractors are Hayward Baker and Nicholson.  They both have good websites.

Good Luck

RE: Sheet piling pricing

I agree partly with gandersen.  Call a LOCAL pile driving contractor to get a quick estimate.  The LOCAL contractor will be more familiar with the area and soil conditions.  I doubt that Nicholson or Hayward-Baker would be interested if the project is small or does not need tieback anchors.  I suspect the pile driving is worth less than $200,000 unless there are major access problems or other installation problems. Is it a union or prevailing wage project?  Is it urban or rural?  Is a sheet pile wall the most appropriate type of wall for the expected conditions.  Does the sheeting need to be steel or can it be vinyl?

Here's a very rough guestimate for steel sheeting:
Install: 500 lf x 20 ft long = 10,000 sf x <$10.00/sf = <$100,000
Materials: 10,000 sf x < 27 psf x $0.35/lb = <$100,000

Plus or minus some misc. expense such as mobilization, capping the wall (if necessary), site restoration, drainage behind the wall, etc.

RE: Sheet piling pricing

You really should get an stimate from a contractor. I have looked at a lot of jobs that were described over the phone as very simple and once I went to the site I saw problems such as site acess, overhead wires or exsiting structures that significantly effected the price. Depending on the size of the job, mobilization can cost as much as the work. Finally, steel prices are going out of sight. In the past few months we have seen a 25% increase in prices and it is still going up. Many vendors do not hold prices for more than a week.

RE: Sheet piling pricing

A cautionary reminder!  Steel prices, including steel sheet piling, have skyrocketed.  Someone just told me that steel sheets were quoted at $900.00 per ton recently.  be careful of any quotes involving steel prices.  Make sure you protect yourself with an inflation clause.

RE: Sheet piling pricing

Rule of thumb in Canada is $ 25.00 per square foot for stay in place sheet piling that number will likely be higher
until steel prices level off.
