We are designing a bottom entry flash vessel to drop slurry from 380 kPa to atmospheric pressure.

The choke sits below a slurry pool to assist in reducing the slurry velocity before it impacts onto a target.

I know the steam and slurry velocity at the choke but how do I predict the velocity at the target, i.e. how much does the slurry pool slow down and disperse the steam/slurry mixture over the depth of the slurry?

Any references would be appreciated.

My understanding is that in practice, the slurry pool doesn't do as much as you'd think.  The flashing slurry produces a conic "hole" in the slurry pool and just blasts straight up at the target, not slowing down as much as one might expect.  I understand that a certain HPAL system in Australia had problems with bottom-mounted flash valves for that reason.
