Alternator Test

Alternator Test

(OP)
I am currently looking at qualiying an Alternator from a Vendor called Magneton. It is a 14V/37A.

I am looking for guidelines on tests to be performed and measurements taken etc etc.

Anything you can suggest will be helpful.
Also, are there any good websites with theory on Alternators.
Thanks
Sparky.

RE: Alternator Test

Data I cant help you with right now, but I will probably find out in due course. Bench testing is something you can do simply enough, but actual field testing for vibration, durability etc is something that specialist labs can do, or you may find groups such as SAE(USA) & IAME (Aust) may be able to direct you to people who do or have done these things.

My experience with Magneton (PAL) is very patchy. The spare parts availability is not real good for some things, and most techicians in the field will, when confronted with a faulty unit (unless its under warranty), make a more common off-the-shelf unit fit in its place.

If you still go ahead and source it make sure you can supply spares readily and competitively, annd ensure that people know that you do supply spare parts & data.
