gear mesh stiffness variation
gear mesh stiffness variation
(OP)
Hi
This question is related to contact analysis between two gears when they are in meshing. Usually when gears are in mesh(tooth to tooth contact not ansys model mesh)they start to engage from its tip of tooth profile with the other mating gear and ends with with same form. But in between contact there is stiffness which cannot be considered a contant rather it is a pure variational. Actually it is considered the stiffness is variating with the time in square wave form of fourier analysis from
K(stiffness) maximum to K minimum.
K maximum when gears tooth are full engaged and K minimum when gear tooth are start and end to engagement.
So my question in ANSYS in 2Dimensional model, is there any contact pairs of elements are available which are updating stiffness according to load changing with time steps as in gear mesh, ofcourse i tried with CONTAC12,178, but it doesn't give proper pair formation in between gear models as i failed to form contact pair, it would be appreciated if some one reply to this research related question.
thank you and cheers

RE: gear mesh stiffness variation
RE: gear mesh stiffness variation
it is the meshing stiffness which is periodic at mesh frequency of gears which can act similar like linear spring, not gear's material stiffness.Which can be expressed as in fourier series.
hopes this information would help you
thank you
