Insert spline points question

Insert spline points question

Insert spline points question

(OP)
I have an assembly that I need to add a flexible "push-pull" cable to. Initially, I created a 3D sketch, using a spline, to define the path. Then I realized that I couldn't get this sketch, which now resides at the bottom of the Assy feature tree, into the inserted part file for the cable. So then, I edited the empty inserted cable part and opened a second 3d sketch. I then selected my original spline and clicked the "convert entities" button which placed a duplicate of my original spline into my new cable part. After sweeping the cable profile and admiring by work I then needed to tweak the path a bit. I would prefer to nudge the second 3d sketch but there are no points on the spline between the ends. No problem, say I, I'll just insert a few points. The problem is that I can find no way to do so with this duplicated spline sketch.

Mandrake

That kind of stuff happens all the time!  Heres a simple solution.

Just go into your assembly and select the sketch that you accidently put there in the assembly tree.  Press Ctrl-C (or edit copy) then open the part that you wish to have the sketch reside in the first place.  press ctrl-V (Edit Paste) and the sketch will now be in the part you want.

Move the sketch up the feature manager above the sweep feature then edit the sweep feature, de-select the original sketch that was used for it, (the converted sketch) then select the sketch you copied into the part.

Now you can delete the sketch that you converted through the assembly.

That should do it.

Hope that helps

Jon,
Thanks for the tip. I had to keep going, so I deleted the features and sketches in my part and did it the "proper" way the second time. I'll remember your suggestion for the next time I get things out of sequence. I do hoses/cables/tubes so infrequently that its a new experience every time!

RE: Insert spline points question

Ahhh I know what you mean!

I work with all sorts of different customers and it seems like everyone does something different so pretty much each day is something new!

Happy hunting!
