64 bit versus dual 32 bit processors

64 bit versus dual 32 bit processors

(OP)
Has anyone investigated the difference between a single 64-bit processor and dual 32 bit processors of approximately the same price for running FEA simulations?

RE: 64 bit versus dual 32 bit processors

Not I, but as a general rule, unless the application was specifically written and compiled to take advantage of the architect, you'll not get the improvement that you'd expect.

A 64-bit processor application needs to be designed to take advantage of the longer word.  Likewise, the dual processor application needs to be designed to properly schedule the tasks on the different processors.
