contact surface penetration

(OP)
Hi,

I am modelling a thin shell(deformable) under pressure of a rigid plate. The rigid surface is set as master surface, and the shell surface as slave surface. However, the rigid body plate always penetrates into the shell as load applied.I have tried several keys. How to slove this problem? Does explicit "adaptive mesh" works out?

Thanks in advance.

RE: contact surface penetration

You'll need to establish contact first bfore applying your loads. Use two steps in your analysis.

It works.
Thanks alot.

RE: contact surface penetration

For all the problem of intiating contact first and then applying the full load.
I'll recommend using *CONTACT CONTROLS, AUTOMATIC TOLERANCES in the first step & intiating contact with displacements.
Then in the second step, use *CONTACT CONTROLS, RESET.
