Inventor 8 crashes importing large IGES files

Inventor 8 crashes importing large IGES files

(OP)
When importing IGES files into Inventor 8 and Mech Desktop 2004 for that matter, I'm having trouble with the PC crashing. I seem to be able to import some files up to about 10 Mb successfully whereas others of 6 Mb won't have it.
The installation is a fresh reinstall of XP Pro less than 2 weeks old.
Is this corruption in the IGES files I,m trying to import?
Can anyone help?

Roachman.

RE: Inventor 8 crashes importing large IGES files

If the data that fails is all coming from the same source then I would suggest asking them to check their IGES settings - could be they are exporting a load of stuff you just don't need.

If the failed translations are from a number of sources it's unlikely to be the files themselves. Try checking your computers Virtual Memory - as a rule of thumb it should be set to around 3 x the amount of RAM in your machine (i.e. if you have 512MB RAM, set your VM to around 1500MB).

You could also ask your contacts to try exporting an IGES solid as opposed to surfaces - Inventor in particular can have problems with surface data.

Hope this helps ...
