What are the formulars to compute the capacity of sump pumps for basement evacuation of water seepage. Also indicate the effect of rain in inches per hour and the effect of standing water on soil perculation increasing the capacity

An electric, submersible sump pump that costs under $200 will handle small debris and small water volumes (under 4,000 gallons per hour). “Trash” or “utility” pumps usually sit above water level and draw through an inlet hose. Their specifications should include debris-handling ability. Typical pump capacity for these types is in the range of 10,000 gallons per hour, and prices range from $200 to $600.

Capacity of flow can be calculated based on the allowable start frequency, the maximum inflow, head and the pump capacity. Generally, the dimensioning of the sump volume is based on the assumption that the constant inflow is at the critical value, i.e. half of the pump capacity.  All manufatures will provide capacity data on there units.
