success with rivatuner!

after a few trys i managed to upgrade my fx5200 to a quadro fx500. it runs real nice now!

the performance in Solidworks is much better i think, also Realview is now enabled, and looks super!)

i anded up using Nvidia drivers 44.03, since soldworks website had them listed. Thanks to Unwinder for a great program.

now i have Quadro performace from a $99.99 vid card! :)

i followed this tutorial in case anyone else in interested:

RE: success with rivatuner!

I applied this and WOW!!  It works great!  I just happen to have a GEforce2 card and was going to buy a high end card.  Thanks!

RE: success with rivatuner!

I'm gald it worked out in the end for you.  I too found that finding that elusive plain & clear tutorial on how-to-use-SoftQuadro-for-dummies was the hard bit .

RE: success with rivatuner!

Is this likely to work for a GeForce FX5600SE card on a PC running XP?

RE: success with rivatuner!

lylek, check the link Mitsu50 posted above and the links in this thread http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?SQID=87117&SPID=559&newpid=559&page=1 .
In short, yes if you use Pre-45.xx Detonator drivers and yes it is worth it if you are running any 3D CAD program.  It is a bit scary the first time because it does require a fair bit of computer wizzardry, hence the need to find some plain & simple walkthrough for the conversion .

Darn...the link to the other thread doesn't show up properly...Dooh...why oh why, it has worked before ?

Well, looks like you'll have to copy'n paste this one .

RE: success with rivatuner!

Anyone try this with a GeForce4 4200 GO? I have a laptop that I'd love to boost a little bit...

i am going to do my fathers t14200 soon. I've read posts on other forums that said it works great so i'll post back after i give it a shot.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I have a Dell home pc with a gforce 2 card and installed the "Forceware" drivers and "Rivatuner".  It took about 25 minutes to understand how to use this hack, but Solidworks believes I have a "Quadro FX 500" and I now have Realview!

Download both Forceware and Rivatuner from:

RE: success with rivatuner!

I tried this on my ti4200 and it seemed to work. everything but real view worked. maybey i did something wrong.  anyone know why this is?

RE: success with rivatuner!

I just got this working with my FX5200.  I have realview enabled and working.  However, the only time that I get the realview display is when I am looking at a single part.  In assembly mode, the display is not renderedusing realview.  I have checked the setting for large assemblies and it is checked to allow realview.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

RE: success with rivatuner!

bmh2208,

What detonator driver version did you download?

RE: success with rivatuner!

45.28 was the driver used.  Realview does work if I am working with only one part.  If I am in an assembly, that same part does not render using realview unless I open the part, assign the material, save it, and then replace the same part in the assembly with the newly saved one.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I applied the hack with my GeForce FX 5200 and now it appears as a qaudro FX 500 under the device manager.  I still can't seem to get realview to function in SolidWorks.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I checked and made sure realview is installed for SolidWorks and that I have the Shaders and shaders_soft folders in my install directory for SolidWorks.  I applied a material to several different parts and still the icon for real view is greyed out.  Any idea why real view would not be functioning?

RE: success with rivatuner!

(OP)
@bmh2208, look in the tools, option, large assembly mode. There is an option to turn on real view for assembly.

@pdybeck, check to see if use open gl software is checked in the options menu. I had to uncheck mine for realview to work.

RE: success with rivatuner!

Mitsu50,

OpenGL is unchecked and has been.  My device manager sees my card as a qaudro FX 500.  When I open a part in SolidWorks the RealView icon is not greyed out for a quick second, and then becomes greyed out as soon as the file is loaded.  I have the shader folders under my install directory.  I am using detonator driver version 44.03.  What else is there?  Any help would be appreciated.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I searched my whole hard drive for the program shaders.exe and did not find it.  Can anyone with RealView operating verify that they have this program installed?  I'm wondering if I need to do a re-install of SolidWorks in order for this to install.  Where could I get this shaders.exe program?

RE: success with rivatuner!

53.03 - See the SW website for proper drivers if that's the card your using. If you are using a true Quadro 500 FX, you should be using the Nvidia drivers not those.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I am using a Geforce FX 5200 hacked into the Quadro FX 500 using the patched driver 44.03.  I don't believe the patch will work with the 53.03 drivers.

RE: success with rivatuner!

53.03 is the driver you are suppose to use with the actual Quadro 500 FX. It is that driver that has been approved by SW for that card. Since your hacking the card with drivers, then I would say that's why your Realview isn't available. It's because 1 that card isn't approved and 2 those drivers are also not approved. I would venture to say your SOL, unless you go and spend about $225 for the card. Small price to pay if you want to have and use realview, plus stable drivers.

Plus another benefit of the card, You VAR can't blame the video card for the problem as often.

RE: success with rivatuner!

Scott,

I disagree with your statement.  According to SolidWorks website, NVidia driver version 44.03 is a certified driver version as of 7/13/03 as well as the 53.03.  The hacking is a separate issue and that is what is being discussed here on this thread.  Mitsu50 was able to get his Geforce FX 5200 card to work with realview by applying the rivatuner qaudro hack.  Since he was able to get it to work, I am wondering why I don't have the same success.  I am fully aware that my card is not a quadro card, and don't have any plans to ask my IT department to buy me one.  If I can get what the qaudro card gives me for only $99, then I will just as many others have had success in the same way.  My VAR should not be blaming software issues that are non-graphics releted on the card anyway and if they tried I would tell them to try that story somewhere else, because it doesn't fly.

RE: success with rivatuner!

There are a number of issue that happen because of your video card. Even things happen with approved cards. Mostly because of the drivers. The fastest way to check if the problem is video card related is if you check the Software OpenGL and the issue goes away or your video issue is improved. This will vary depending on the situation. I wasn't saying that they would blame the card just because. There are things to test to see if that was the problem.

IfMitsu50 was able to get it to work then he should be the one repling in this thread. Since your not using an approved card. I can't honestly say what the problem is, but i'll bet it's in your drivers.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I wanted to see if anyone else out there applying this hack had some advice for me - Anyone, Anyone,?  Bueller?

RE: success with rivatuner!

The latest driver that will work with this hack is 45.23.
All more recent drivers are protected,(so far)
I used 45.23,applied the hack exactly as directed on my FX5200,and now have FX500 Quatro with RealView enabled.

I am using the FORCEWARE driver 61.76 on a Geforce 2 card and the Rivatuner hack with no problems.
The FORCEWARE driver is the same driver for Geforce, as well as the Quadro line.  Read the last paragraph here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/feature_uda.html
Download official Forcware here:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/software.html

As far as Realview showing materials in a single part, but not in an assembly, it might be that you have a color applied in the assembly because I had the same problem until I figured it out.
In the assembly, right-click the part and choose "Appearance" > "Colors".
In the "Selection" box, pick the part, and pick the "Remove Color" button.  Apparently this supercedes any material that is applied and "Realview" ignores the material.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I should have said for the FX5*** series cards.
The original poster has one of these.
As you say, the forceware drivers will work with the Geforce 2/Quatro hack.

RE: success with rivatuner!

I have a GEForce FX 5700LE which I modded to a QuadroFX 1100. I used Rivatuner and the nVidia 66.81 drivers.  BEAUTIFUL!

RE: success with rivatuner!

I recommend all of you that are experiencing problems to check out the rivatuner forum  http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=18

there should be info on which drivers are the latest to work with this mod. The mod will work on your 4200 cards.

For all of you with ATI based cards, a similar hack is available with the same tool, and there also exists a socalled freefireGL driver to make the process easyer.

Best of luck !

RE: success with rivatuner!

I've hacked lots of cards including ti4200, ti4800se and lately a 6800 gt into a Quadro 4000 FX! Drivers used 71.84 Rivatuner is great - chech out 3dguru.com

RE: success with rivatuner!

Early in this thread, alexit asked about hacking a GeForce4 4200 GO (note that this is not the same as a ti4200). I've not seen any specific reply to his question. I've tried a couple of different driver sets but have not been successful. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the GeForce4 4200 GO?

RE: success with rivatuner!

Mitsu50, a star from me for starting this thread.
