how to import vendor files into LT

how to import vendor files into LT

how to import vendor files into LT

(OP)
I am using LT 97 and Windows NT.  I would like to import details from vendor CDs into my drawing.  LT will not let me open the vendor detail .dwg details from the CD.  It tells me that the file has illegal names.  The manual talks about using quotation marks around the file names but after reading the manual I am still confused.  Do I have to use Explore under NT to copy the files to hard disk and rename them using "" before I can drop insert them into my drawing?  Thanks for your help. Jon

Jon,
I don't know Vendor. Can you post an example (link). Maybe Your version is to old...?

Lothar,
Thanks for your help.  I don't think it is an age or version issue.  LT97 should read and write R14 files which most vendors use.  I believe my problem is procedural.  I have simply never used imported material before and believe I am just having trouble getting started.  Jon

CORN;
I IMPORT VENDOR DRAWINGS ALL DAY LONG USING LT. WHAT TYPE OF MATERIAL ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPORT? IF IT IS A DRAWING THEN I WOULD JUST USE THE INSERT BLOCK COMMAND OR OPEN THE DRAWING AND COPY AND PASTE IN WHAT YOU NEED. A EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.  Here is what I found out:  LT will not accept a file name with a space in it.  Their suggested fix is to rename adding quotation marks around the original file name.  This may work in some circumstances, but NT will not accept file names with a litany of things including quotation marks.  I copied the files to the hard drive, renamed them without spaces or the offensive punctuation marks and imported them no problem using insert;block;file.  Files created on AutoCad 2000 were accepted by LT 97 with only a few unrecognized entities and no detectable flaws.  Jon
