Receptacle and Recepticle

We all know its "receptacle"... right? Right!

As in, "Plug that jack into the receptacle."

RE: Receptacle and Recepticle

Maybe sorta’ like supposedly and supposably?

RE: Receptacle and Recepticle

heheh... one of my coworkers is trying his hardest to make "supposably" the standard.  He even convinced his own mother to use it (by repeatedly "correcting" her when she used the other).

Funny thing about "supposedly", I write it correctly, but always pronounce it as "supposably".

RE: Receptacle and Recepticle

Our chief engineer used to say "exasperate" instead of "exacerbate". I became exasperated when the owner of the company began doing it, too.

RE: Receptacle and Recepticle

I had a teacher once who was always saying that the purpose of an air ejector was to "essost non-compressible gases to the asmosphere".  If you told him "essost" had an "x" in it you flunked the course for being a smart aleck.
