design of flow meter for LPG

design of flow meter for LPG

(OP)
Hi,
I need the design,Sizing, type of flow meter for the following :-
SIZE :  12" pipe of length 9.1 Km.
 MEDIUM : LPG ( BUTANE/PROPANE)
 PRESSURE : BETWEEN 2.5 TO 48 KG/SQ.CM.
 TEMPERATURE : -45 DEG TO + 55 DEG.CENT.
 FLOW RATE : BETWEEN 250 TO 500 METRIC TONS/HOUR.

RE: design of flow meter for LPG

It appears that the line will be in the liquid phase.  Based on the GPSA Engineering Data Book (www.gasprocessors.org), an 8" turbine meter will work as well as a 12" orifice operating at 200" H2O at .6 beta ratio.  You'll need to verify phase and density (ratio Butane to Propane) for exact operating conditions and sizing.

RE: design of flow meter for LPG

Dependant on the accuracy (uncertainty) required turbine, orifice plate, coriolis, ultrasonic meters could be used. As always highly accurate flow measurement works out expensive. If you let me know what accuracy you are trying to acheive, I can give you some further information.

RE: design of flow meter for LPG

has anyone got any advice as to the suitability of the 'coriolis mass flow meter', compared to a 'positive displacement meter', for testing LPG dispensers.
