On-line Dictionary & Thesaurus

Wordsmiths,

For those that like to use considerable (www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Diction...) words, I suggest using Merriam-Webster OnLine (www.merriam-webster.com). There is also an excellent toolbar (www.merriam-webster.com/toolbar) functionality that allows highlighted words to be looked up for their meanings or for synonyms. Neat stuff!

Enjoy!

Best regards,

RE: On-line Dictionary & Thesaurus

My preference tends to be http://onelook.com/?w=caisson&ls=a, which is a meta-dictionary that pulls up Merriam-Webster as one of the choices.

One thing that's kind of nice is that it references other, more esoteric sources like the EPA.

For a less extensive spellcheck, you might want to look at the free WordWeb at http://wordweb.info/free/

Depending on patience, m-w<ctrl><enter> in IE is fast.

A google 'gotcha' is searching on a misspelled entry and getting back more misspelled entries.

(for the above shortcut to work, you must have "autocomplete" turned on for web addresses within IE)
