Hello:

Do you know if ACI covers increasing the compressive strength of concrete based on confinement of surrounding concrete, and if so which code?

Thanks,
Matt Palermo

RE: confinement strength of concrete

Never heard of that in the ACI code.

RE: confinement strength of concrete

For prestressed concrete, look at 18.23, ACI318-02.

Hello:
Actually I just found something in the ACI code in section 10.17, for bearing purposes.
Thanks,
Matt

RE: confinement strength of concrete

Punching shear - beam shear strength is particular to geometry. The greater the confinement, the greater the shear strength. Varies 2 phi to 4 phi.

RE: confinement strength of concrete

If interested - Floyd O. Slate had done a lot of work on confinement strength of concrete (Cornell prof back in 70's and 80's - still living????). You'd have to check journals and so.
