Insert Excel as Object

Insert Excel as Object

Insert Excel as Object

(OP)
We are using SW4, SP0.0.  We do a lot of tabulation of data and I want to insert an Excel spreadsheet as an object into a drawing, then enter the information in the columns.  I don't want to link the spreadsheet.  The problem I'm having is the size of the spreadsheet keeps changing.  I get it located and sized just right, then close the spreadsheet.  When I re-open the spreadsheet, edit data in the columns then close it, the speadsheet size has changed.  When I check the properties the scaling varies quite a bit, sometimes it is 1:1 other times it is 1:2.13849, etc.

Any answers on how to fix the size?

RE: Insert Excel as Object

This is a problem with inserted office objects, and I am not sure it is even something SW can control.  We used to us Word to do large sets of general notes in order to get some decent text editting and formatting.  We then developed our own code to do this with SW text notes.  i understand SW2004 now has better tools for this (I generally don't do drafting).

RE: Insert Excel as Object

Try updating to SP2.1. I am using excel files inserted as objects and dont have any problems. I am using templates every time, rather than inserting from new though.

RE: Insert Excel as Object

I have the same opinion as JNR. This OLE thing is something that works well in theory, but when we start to insert objects in OLE software, strange things are allways hapening.

Sometimes I use tables in drawings: I create them in Excel and do a copy past into the drawing. I don't know if this mothod produces different results than yours (that is, insert object), but it seems to be stable.

I think that SW should have an insert table tool, for general tables creation (like in Word).

RE: Insert Excel as Object

Inserted Excel tables have allways behaved badly.

We've gone to linking our Excel spreadsheets to Word tables when needed.
The Word tables inserted into SW seems much more stable and easier to control.
